International Summer Academy

London Organ Day

German Romantic music is the main focus of the day. David Knight gives a presentation on the organ repertoire, with organ examples played by Simon Thomas Jacobson the City of London School's 3-manual Walker instrument; and a concert of 19th-century German choral music is given by Pegasus Music, conducted by Matthew Altham. Robert Leach and Barry Williams give advice on being an organist and choirmaster, and John Mander presents recently built and restored instruments. Daniel Moult gives masterclasses and the closing recital.

London Organ Improvisation Course (LOIC)

Messiaen 2008

A celebration of the French composer's centenary begins with an organ recital by Susan Landale in St Giles' Cathedral. A full day's programme at St Mary's Metropolitan RC Cathedral includes Nigel Simeone giving a lecture on ‘Messiaen and La Trinité'; and Susan Landale gives a masterclass on the new organ by Matthew Copley. Hosted by the Edinburgh Society of Organists, in association with the Royal College of Organists and the Edinburgh Organ Academy.

Mount Royal International Summer School
20-29 Jul, Mount Royal College, Calgary, Canada
Intermediate and advanced organists receive private tuition and work in small groups with Simon Preston (artistic director), John Butt, David Higgs and Neil Cockburn. Students can focus on the music of Bach and Messiaen or pre-1750 repertoire. Daily practice time is built in, and every student performs in one of the closing concerts. Instruments include the 3-manual mechanical action Mount Royal College Carthy Organ (Létourneau); the 4-manual electric action Carthy Organ (Casavant); the 2-manual mechanical action Ronald B. Bond Bach Organ (Ahrend); and the 3-manual electric action organ by Casavant in the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer.
